NEW ARTS CENTRE FOR WYNDHAM

Two exciting new community facilities are on the way for Wyndham thanks to support from the Andrews Labor Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.

Local Government Minister Shaun Leane has announced Wyndham City Council will receive $4.5 million towards the projects from the Growing Suburbs Fund, which helps Melbourne’s rapidly developing interface and peri-urban councils deliver high-quality facilities for their communities.

$3 million will help to transform the current Wyndham Cultural Centre into a hub for creativity and relaunch it as the Wyndham Arts Centre, including a refurbished 497-seat auditorium, a 200-seat black box theatre and a new gallery space.

A $1.5 million grant will support the new skate park and other new facilities for young people at the Lawrie Emmins Reserve, including a bouldering area and climbing wall, outdoor basketball courts, exercise equipment, shelters and barbecues.

First launched in 2015, the Growing Suburbs Fund has invested $32 million into twenty-two projects in Wyndham, including the new Street Surfer bus and the Wunggurrwil Dhurrung Centre.

Since its establishment in 2015, the Growing Suburbs Fund has facilitated $913.2 million in local infrastructure, created more than 8,880 jobs and supported 253 projects across Melbourne’s fastestgrowing areas.
