LOCAL SPORTS CLUBS IN WYNDHAM RECEIVE FUNDING BOOST

A number of local sporting organisations in Wyndham have been awarded grants of up to $2,500 from the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation to train volunteers, purchase sports equipment, for injury prevention and management equipment and portable sunshade.

State Member for Tarneit, Tim Pallas, said the grants were designed to get more people in the community physically active and engaged.

“In Victoria, half of all adults do not get enough exercise. Research also shows being involved in sport provides people with a positive sense of self-worth, as well as building community pride,” Mr Pallas said.

“Regular physical activity not only protects against many illnesses, it also makes us mentally healthy, alert and resilient against the stresses of modern life.”

“Congratulations to the clubs who received grants and thanks to all the sporting clubs that play such a vital role in community life in our area.”

More than 9,300 sporting clubs have received Active Clubs Grants over the 22 years that VicHealth has provided this support.

VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter said it was vital to support local sporting organisations.

“Because of our annual Active Clubs Grants round, more than one million club members in Victoria have been able to access safer and better equipped clubs with more experienced volunteers,” Ms Rechter said.

“Sports Clubs provide a valuable service in the community of Wyndham, not just for sport and fitness but for getting people together as well. Friendship and a strong sense of community are important for good health.”

Mr Pallas would like to congratulate the following sporting organisations on being awarded a grant:

  • Glen Orden Sports Club
  • Werribee Little Athletics Centre
  • Hoppers Crossing Swimming Club Inc.
  • Wyndham Warriors BMX & MTB Club
  • Werribee Bears Rugby League Sports Club Inc.
