LABOR EXTENDS GRANTS PROGRAM FOR MULTICULTURAL SENIORS

The Andrews Labor Government is continuing the popular Participation for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Seniors Grants Program for another two years.

Local Werribee MP, Tim Pallas today called on Wyndham ethnic and multicultural community groups and organisations, as well as Wyndham Council to apply for the 2016 round of the grants.

Since 2011, the program has funded more than 200 community projects that help culturally diverse seniors get involved and participate in the community.

The grants help seniors from CALD backgrounds who are socially isolated to connect to new or existing social networks and activities through innovative community projects.

Projects can range from events, cultural activities, social outings, classes and information sessions, as well as organising help with transport for seniors who find it difficult to leave home.

The program is delivered in partnership with the Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria (ECCV).

An ECCV report on the program found that more than 150 ethnicities were represented among 208 projects funded over the past four years, engaging more than 3,000 seniors in community activities.

Eligible organisations such as seniors clubs, ethnic community groups, migrant resource centres, neighbourhood houses, aged care facilities and local councils are invited to apply for funding up to $5000 or $10,000 for complex projects.

The next round of grants is open until 5 February 2016. Guidelines and application forms are available at www.seniorsonline.vic.gov.au. For more information or additional support contact the ECCV on (03) 9349 4122.
