The Andrews Labor Government has opened its Social Cohesion Research Grants Program, with $500,000 available to fund community research into strengthening social cohesion, community resilience and preventing violent extremism.

Member for Werribee, Tim Pallas said the Program will work with the community to identify and provide evidence-based ideas and methods to counter violent extremism and promote multicultural inclusion within Victoria.

Applications need to reflect the Taskforce’s research priorities, possess sound knowledge of current theory and practice, and present value for money.

Government cannot respond to these challenges alone, which is why partnerships between universities, research institutions, government agencies and community organisations are encouraged.

Tim Pallas MP said the Government is looking for Victorian individuals or groups that form part of a university or research institution to undertake the research.

Funding for the Program was approved by the Social Cohesion and Community Resilience Taskforce and will be managed by the Community Resilience Unit.

The Grants are open for applications between $20,000 and $150,000 with research to be delivered within twelve months.
