MEMBERS STATEMENT: WERRIBEE ELECTORATE SCHOOLS

MR PALLAS (Werribee—Treasurer, Minister for Economic Development, Minister for Industrial Relations) (09:36): I rise to update the house on my recent visit to Woodville Primary School and Wyndham Vale Primary School in my electorate of Werribee. Students at Woodville Primary School participated in the Andrews Labor government’s Glasses for Kids program. The program provides participating prep to year 3 government school students with onsite free vision screening and testing and, if needed, free glasses. I have got to say it was a fantastic experience. A total of 28 students at Woodville Primary were deemed to need glasses, and it was great to join with the acting principal, Ms Jodi Binion, and learning specialist Mr Sean Stanek-Bakes to deliver the glasses to the students. This important program will help students in my electorate and across the state to see better and achieve their best, inside and outside of school.

I also joined principal Sue Seneviratne recently at Wyndham Vale Primary School to talk about environmental sustainability and view the school’s impressive new solar panel system, installed as part of the Andrews Labor government’s greener government school buildings program. Wyndham Vale Primary is not alone in receiving this upgrade. I am pleased that other primary schools in Werribee—Wyndham Central College, Riverwalk Primary School and Wyndham Park Primary School—will also receive solar systems under this program. It is fantastic to see Victorian students be so passionate towards caring about the environment, and I congratulate them on their efforts.
