MEMBERS STATEMENT: PREMIER’S READING CHALLENGE

It gives me great pleasure to speak about my recent visit to Wyndham Park Primary School to acknowledge the commencement of the Premier’s Reading Challenge.

Now in its 15th year, the Premiers’ Reading Challenge continues to inspire more children to read, helping to build essential literacy skills that support their education.
Last year, over 200 students from Wyndham Park Primary took part and this year the students are just as determined to participate.
I had a chance to share in the fun reading, ‘Swap’, a riveting story about an alligator’s sibling rivalry — to Mrs Egan’s brilliantly behaved, and enthusiastic 1/2A class.

Wyndham Park Primary School is so passionate about reading that their motto is ‘Reading is the key’ — ‘to Aspire, Learn and Achieve!’

At the end of the day, reading is the skill that makes all other learning possible.

A love of reading sets us up for life as children realise they have the power to research, learn more, and beat you to the finish of the last Harry Potter book.

I look forward to hearing about all the interesting books from local students in my Werribee electorate.

Happy reading!
