WERRIBEE SCORES ATHLETE PATHWAYS TRAVEL GRANTS

Sport clubs in Werribee will be able to compete against the best of best thanks to a $1500 Andrews Labor Government funding boost.

Member for Werribee, Tim Pallas today announced that the Italian Sports Club of Werribee (Werribee City FC) and Wyndham Track and Field Club were some of 179 successful applicants from 50 different sports to share in $269,000 from the latest round of the Athlete Pathway Travel Grants Program.

Athletes, coaches and officials often need to travel long distances to competitions or training camps to reach their potential, and we are helping them to remove the cost barrier of travel and accommodation.

With this funding, state sporting associations and community clubs can now support athletes, coaches, teams, and officials to attend important regional, statewide, national and international training camps or competitions.

From the latest round, 39 state sporting associations and 140 sporting clubs are receiving support for developing Victorian athletes and others engaged in sport and active recreation to maximise their potential and opportunities to participate.

The funding for the Italian Sports Club of Werribee (Werribee City FC) will help with travel costs to the NPL 2017 in Warrnambool. Additionally, Wyndham Track and Field Club will receive $750 to assist with travel costs to Sydney for the 2017 Australian Schools Championships.

The Athlete Pathway Travel Grants Program is part of our commitment to make sport more accessible and inclusive, increase local participation, stimulate local economies, and create new jobs and volunteer opportunities.
