Tim Pallas commends the RSL on 100 years of service

Tim Pallas today commends the Returned Services League of Australia (RSL) on 100 years of service and support for our ex-service members, and their families.

Formed in 1916, the RSL is one of Australia’s oldest and most respected national organisations.

The RSL will hold its National Conference on 6 June, commemorating 100 years of service to our ex-service personnel, and will touch on how the organisation is continuing to evolve to serve a new generation of members.

According to the Victorian Veterans Council Report, the RSL nationally has just under 170,000 members, with the majority of RSL members (38%) over 65,000 members in Victoria.

There are almost 300 sub-branches throughout the state, including in Werribee RSL Sub Branch, which was established in 1919 and consists of around 1500 members.

Werribee RSL Sub Branch provides veterans with a range of services including advocacy and support. This is in addition to the social support and connections they provide for veterans, their families and the Werribee community.

To coincide with its Centenary, the RSL has arranged a program of events, including a commemorative service at The Shrine of Remembrance on Sunday 5th June, RSL National Conference in Melbourne on Monday 6th June, and a Conference Dinner on 6th June.

The Andrews Labor Government has committed $400,000 to RSL Victoria over four years (2015-18) to provide and deliver veterans welfare programs and support.
