PLANNING UNDERWAY TO DELIVER COMMUTER CAR PARK BOOST IN MELBOURNE’S WEST

Commuters in Melbourne’s west are set for a massive car park boost with planning consultation now underway for more than 1280 new and upgraded spaces at three railway stations.

The next stations to receive upgrades are Caroline Springs, Tarneit and Wyndham Vale.

Commuters will benefit from more, new and upgraded parking spaces, accessible parking, and improvements to lighting, CCTV, bicycle facilities and new trees, shrubs and grass for green spaces.

The new and upgraded spaces to be delivered include 500 at Tarneit, 380 at Wyndham Vale and 400 at Caroline Springs, a huge boost for passengers who use these busy stations.

With planning and design for the new car parks now underway, communities are being asked to provide feedback.

These projects are part of the Victorian Government’s Car Parks for Commuters program, which is helping to deliver 11,000 new and upgraded car parking spaces at railway stations across metropolitan and regional Victoria.

Works have already started on 100 new and improved car parks at Melton Station, which will service commuters on the Ballarat line, one of the state’s busiest regional train lines, and works are set to start from early September on 100 new and upgraded parks at Aircraft Station on the Werribee line.

The massive boost to commuter parking across Melbourne’s west means less time sitting in the car and less time trying to find a car park, or safe place to lock up your bike before catching the train.

It follows planning consultation for more than 620 new and improved car parks at seven other stations including Merlynston, Eltham, Wattle Glen, Upper Ferntree Gully Yarraman, Nar Nar Goon and Drouin.

Millions of passenger trips are taken to and from these stations every year, with Caroline Springs, Tarneit and Wyndham Vale servicing one of Melbourne’s fastest growing regions.

As part of the planning process, members of the community can provide their feedback at engage.vic.gov.au.

Once consultation is completed the designs will be finalised and unveiled later this year, before construction starts in early 2022.
