LABOR DELIVERS BMX’S BEST TO WERRIBEE

The Werribee electorate is set to host some of the best athletes from around the country thanks to a $5000 funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Werribee, Tim Pallas today announced that Werribee has secured the 2017 Wyndham BMX Club State Championships through the Labor Government’s Significant Sporting Events Program.

The 2017 Wyndham BMX Club State Championships will be held on 17-19 November 2017 at the Wyndham BMX Club, and is expected to attract up to 1000 of Australia’s best BMX stars, including 300 from outside Victoria.

The event provides an opportunity for the people of the Werribee electorate to showcase their local sports facilities, attractions and talent to visitors from far and wide.

Events like this mean serious business for Wyndham. They attract tourists, create jobs, keep local businesses busy, and inspire more kids to get involved and join grassroots clubs.

That’s why the Victorian Budget 2017/18 included a further $1 million for the Significant Sporting Events Program to keep securing more events for Melbourne and regional Victoria.

To date, the 2014-2018 Significant Sporting Events Program has provided $5,852,400 in funding to secure 250 big sporting events to Victoria. More than half of these events have been held in regional Victoria.

Grants are available to support event organisers, state sporting associations, sporting venues or Local Government Authorities to boost the profile and legacy of sporting events or assist with operational requirements.
