JOBS BOOM IN WYNDHAM HELPING LOCALS WORK CLOSER TO HOME

New jobs are allowing locals in growing Wyndham communities to work closer to where they live, new data shows.

Fresh census data shows Wyndham is in the middle of an employment boom, with local jobs growing 44 per cent from 2011 to 2016.

The data shows that jobs creation is outstripping dwelling creation. Some 19,296 jobs were added to the municipality – higher than the 16,219 dwellings built.

Industries experiencing the strongest growth include transport, postal and warehousing (2,858 jobs), healthcare and social assistance (2,592 jobs) and retail trade (2,363 jobs).

The data shows that the Andrews Labor Government’s focus on ensuring new communities in growth areas are properly connected with jobs and services is working.

The Government’s Plan Melbourne is our blueprint for catering for population growth and retaining our liveability.

Plan Melbourne aims to make the “20 Minute Neighbourhood” a reality for every Melburnian, where all of our everyday needs can be met with a 20-minute walk, cycle or public transport trip from home.

The ABS data reveals there were 2.05 million jobs created in Greater Melbourne – and more than three quarters were outside of the central city.

The Labor Government is building new communities in Melbourne’s west with the services and infrastructure families deserve.

We recently unveiled Mt Atkinson, a 15,000 hectare precinct set to become home to 8,000 dwellings and 22,000 people over the next 15 years.

Mt Atkinson will be a hive of jobs, with up to 19,000 long-term jobs in retail, commercial, industrial, office and education businesses.

Supply is a cornerstone of housing affordability, which is why the Government is rezoning 100,000 lots of land in key growth areas in two years, and speeding up the time it takes for land to be shovel ready.
