Member for Werribee, Tim Pallas welcomed the release of the independent VET Funding Review’s Issues Paper.

The Issues Paper, released on 16 July by Minister for Training and Skills Steve Herbert, highlights a range of issues to be addressed including:

  • Ensuring only high quality providers can access government funding for training
  • Encouraging training provision which provides students and employees with practical, hands-on training which meets the needs of modern industry
  • Ensuring better support for TAFEs to they can fulfil their crucial role in the community

The review, led by Mr Bruce Mackenzie with Mr Neil Coulson as Deputy Reviewer, spent three months consulting with employers, industry, training organisations and teachers, with more than 900 written submissions.

Mr Herbert said the reviewers would undertake further consultation with employers, training providers and the community about the options detailed in the issues paper the coming weeks.

The reviewers will incorporate the findings from this consultation as final report, which will be provided to the Government later this year.

Member for Werribee, Tim Pallas, said the VET Funding Review was a key election commitment by the Government, and is a key part of the Government’s work to establish a better TAFE and training system for all Victorians.

The final report will advise the Government on a more stable and sustainable funding model that will support Victorians to develop the skills they need to get a job and meet the skills needs of growing Victorian industries for the long-term.
