GETTING MORE VICTORIAN WOMEN INTO AUTOMOTIVE CAREERS

The Andrews Labor Government is ensuring more Victorian women have the chance to pursue a meaningful career in automotive, through a new training partnership with Chisholm TAFE and local industry.

Member for Werribee Tim Pallas encouraged women in Werribee to explore the exciting opportunities made available through the Accelerating Women into Automotive initiative, which is a gateway to an apprenticeship in the field.

Participants undertake a four-week intensive introduction, covering the many in-demand jobs that are available across Victoria including technicians, panel beaters, spray painters and more. They also receive training, work experience, assistance starting an apprenticeship and ongoing support throughout.

Accelerating Women into Automotive is delivered by Chisholm TAFE and Victorian Automotive Chamber of Commerce alongside automotive workplaces in metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The Labor Government has invested $618,000 into the program, which is part of the $5 million Women in Trades fund, removing barriers faced by women wanting to start a rewarding career in traditionally male-dominated trades like plumbing, electrical and aviation.

Women in Trades is overseen by Apprenticeships Victoria (AV), which is already helping reduce barriers for Victorian women looking to learn and earn in workplaces across the state.

Since 2014, the Government has made a record $3.2 billion investment to rebuild TAFE and support universities and higher education to ensure Victorians have access to high quality education and rewarding career pathways.

The Victorian Budget 2021/22 includes a $383.8 million investment in the sector to ensure more Victorians get the training they need for in-demand jobs.
