CELEBRATING YOUNG PEOPLE IN WYNDHAM

Young people in Wyndham will participate in a range of events to recognise and celebrate the contribution they make to their local community.

Victorian Youth Week runs from 5 to 14 April 2019 and highlights the important role young people play in in our state – giving them a chance to plan, deliver and attend events in their local area.

The Andrews Labor Government has provided more than $220,000 to local community organisations, schools and councils across metropolitan and regional Victoria to support over 130 events during Victorian Youth Week.

Events include art exhibitions, musical performances, cultural celebrations and sporting competitions. All events are delivered in a safe and inclusive environment that is alcohol, drug and smoke-free.

The following events will be funded for Wyndham:

  • Tarneit Senior College’s Cultural Diversity Week
  • Wyndham City Council Youth Services’ Pop Up Park Wellbeing Festival
  • Liberian Youth Association-Victorian Inc’s Liberian Youth Awards Gala Dinner

Victorian Youth Week was created after the Turnbull Government scrapped funding for Australia’s largest celebration of young people – National Youth Week – forcing states and territories to do it alone.

In just its second year, Victorian Youth Week is bigger and better than ever, with 69 events planned in metropolitan Melbourne and 62 events in regional Victoria.

Minister for Youth Gabrielle Williams will officially launch Victorian Youth Week on Friday at the Labor Government’s annual Youth Summit.
